What is life? Answering Imam Nursi in a Philosophical Context

Abstract

This research is intended to present the thesis of Imam Nursi and his answer to the question (What is life?), a question that, throughout his history, man has not been able to live without invoking it, as the answer to it lies in the meaning of his life and the secret of his existence.

 Nursi's answer to the question (What is life?) came with a wide range of answers that absorbed and expanded vast philosophical fields extending between the theory of existence and the study of metaphysics, passing through the theory of knowledge and the study of values, ending with a companion to the philosophy of human sociology.

Imam Nursi presented a range of faith facts and a host of philosophical conceptions and concepts, and based all of this on scientific audits, indicating that there is no epistemological rupture between the life sciences and their applications, issues of thought, philosophy, and inspirations of the soul of Imam Nursi; According to a method that connects sciences and human knowledge without a separation or rupture between these types of knowledge and sciences.

The article focused on presenting Imam Nursi’s refusal of the doctrine of materialistic mechanism and the statement of the incoherence of the claim that matter is the origin, and the shortcomings of their saying that the transformations of its atoms are the source of the assets.

The article adopted a scientific methodology; Through it, I sought to employ the tools of the analytical method to deconstruct Imam Nursi’s speech, explore the holistic concepts on which it was founded, examine its argumentative methods and tools, and clarify the summary of its results. Nursi between the wisdom of the Noble Qur’an on the one hand, and what materialistic philosophy offers on the other hand, in their approach to the issue of what is life?

 The article is divided into three sections and a conclusion. The first section of it comes in the place of the preface, addressing the foundational concepts and concepts. The second topic presents the definition of the theses of materialistic philosophies about the nature of life and Imam Nursi’s refutation of it. The third topic deals with Imam Nursi’s response to the question What is life? The conclusion includes a summary of the article and its main ideas.
