Abstract

This short paper discusses the concept of “wasat” mainstream in the Holy Quran and
in Lisanul-arab dictionary of Arabic language in addition to the definition of Imam
Nursi to the “wasat approach” as integrity “Istigama”. The paper emphasizes that
Nursi’s definition is comprehensive and exhaustive.
The paper explores applications of the Wasat Approach by Nursi in issues related to
the Holy Quran and its interpretation, to the status of the reason and its limits, to
follow and submission to the Sunna “Prophetic Traditions”, to the “Bida’a” heresy
and its divisions with some links to mysticism.
The paper also underlines applications of the Wasat Approach by Nursi as to some
individuals, groups and to his stance vis-à-vis Europe and its civilization.
The paper concludes that the Wasat Approach adopted by Imam Nursi is a Muslims
Unity Project. The paper also reflects Nuris’s contribution to bring together those
who are working for the Islam and unite them around a sort of constitution that is
suitable for their unity. This is a reason for Allah grace and a way for honor, glory,
and success.
