The Concept and Wisdom of Zakat According to Imam Bediuzzaman Said Nursi

Abstract

This research aims to study Imam Bediuzzaman Said Nursi's understanding of zakat and its wisdom through analysing the texts and concepts presented in "Risale-i Nur." The paper examines how Nursi addresses zakat from a social and spiritual perspective, analyzing the importance of zakat in achieving social justice and solidarity among individuals in society. Imam Nursi emphasizes that zakat is not only a means to alleviate the suffering of the poor but also a tool for building a balanced society based on cooperation and love as zakat helps reduce economic disparities and strengthen social cohesion. Nursi believes that zakat aims to purify both wealth and the soul, removing greed and selfishness from people's hearts and contributing to the refinement of morals. As per Said Nursi Zakat is more than just a financial obligation; it represents an opportunity for spiritual growth and the enhancement of noble human relations. Imam Nursi also connects zakat to deeper dimensions related to social integration and the purification of society from psychological and social ailments. This research employs a textual analytical method, where the content of "Risale-i Nur" is analysed to explain how Imam Nursi presents the concept of zakat through his intellectual texts. The study includes an examination of zakat concepts within a social, spiritual, and intellectual context based on interpretation and detailed analysis of Imam Nursi's writings, with a focus on the social and psychological impacts of zakat as seen by Imam Nursi.
