Abstract

This study attempts to discuss the views of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi on the concept of sidq (truthfulness) and its significance in the contemporary society. The aim of this paper is to present a comprehensive description and analysis of Said Nursi’s views on sidq and highlight the original aspects. This research is very important because it provides insight about one of the most fundamental issues of Islam and key moral value, namely truthfulness especially in such a time when the ummah is in mischief in terms of truthfulness. This study focuses on the original definition and special place of truthfulness in Islam, the importance truthfulness in ourselves, our families and societies. The study is qualitative where it relies upon library research. Data has been collected from the Qurʾān, hadith and Risāle-i Nūr as the primary sources and from other written sources. The data were studied through descriptive and analytical analysis methods. The researcher has found that, according to Said Nursi, truthfulness is more than being truthful in speech and it is the main principle of Islam and the bond of fine character traits and that elimination of lying from our societies is the way out for the Muslim ummah from its malady.
