Abstract

Islam is the religion of simplicity, moderation, balance and just that leads its
followers to the straight path. Moderation is an important fundamental characteristic
of Islam. The teachings of Islam emphasize the importance of understanding ‘Qur’an
and the ‘Sunnah’ based on the understanding of ‘Sahaba’. However, the most
important factor that caused conflicts and deviations in the Muslim community after
Prophet Mohammed is the result of misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the
concept of moderation. Thus, in order to provide a thorough understanding of the
concept ‘‘wasatiyya” this paper will discuss its implementation during the time of
‘‘Sahaba’’ based on the historical perspective in the light of Risale-i Nur.
